Web sites about classical music

Have you ever tried a search on Google for the terms “women” and “classical music”? The first link that appears is Beauty in Music – a list of music “babes” broken down by instrument. Not exactly a useful site in finding out what women are accomplishing in the arts. Here is a list of a few helpful links:

The New York Times

MusoLife - a British classical music magazine

Gramophone - one of the most popular British classical music magazines

BBC Music magazine  - another British one

MV Daily - “The world’s first daily classical music magazine”

Culture Kiosque  - covers world-wide music news

Kapralova -  a site with resources about women in music

Chicago Sinfonietta - A smaller orchestra in the Chicago area that is paying tribute to the contributions that women have made to classical music in a concert at the end of March.

Blogs:

Jessica Duchen -  A music journalist based in London

Alex Ross - This blog, by the critic for The New Yorker, contains links to dozens of classical music blogs written by composers, performers and enthusiasts.

Bryant Manning -  A Chicago-based music blogger

Steve Smith – a regular contributor to The New York Times
