Important issues
Hirings and Firings: Are women winning and keeping top jobs? In Chicago, Cynthia Yeh just replaced Ted Atkatz as the principal percussion of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra — one of the most coveted orchestral positions for percussionists.
Community Outreach: What are women doing to help keep the arts alive in their communities?
Money for Women: How are women financing their projects? There are dozens of foundations offering grants for women in the arts. Are people using these resources?
Who’s getting invitations to perform? In many cases, orchestras are still performing with more male soloists than with women. Also, many of the women touring as soloists are extremely talented and also are youthful-looking or attractive. Are older women getting the same opportunities to perform as young virtuosos are?

I’m not sure if you’re focusing mostly on performers, but Marin Alsop is worth paying attention to - she became the Baltimore Symphony’s first female music director last year (and the first woman to head a major American orchestra). After some controversy, people seem to think she’s doing a great job.
